U.S. Olympic Sprinter/Ex-Florida Running Back Jeff Demps Signs With The Patriots

Bill Belichick is the king of splash signings, despite what people may have to say about one Rex Ryan. The Patriots have signed Chad Ochocinco, Corey Dillon, Randy Moss, Albert Haynesworth, Tim Tebow, Jeremy Lin, Jay Leno and basically anyone they can get their hands on under The Hoodie’s watch.

They get whoever they want and can afford, because they’re the Patriots and they do what they desire. And because they’re the Patriots (and not the Jets), their signings are universally praised by the media.

Now they’ve signed the latest high-profile X-factor of a free agent, rookie Jeff Demps, who didn’t enter the 2012 NFL Draft because he was focusing on making the Olympics. He was successful, won a silver medal with Team USA in the 4x100m relay, and declared his intention of signing with an NFL team soon afterward.

It does indeed seem like a commendable signing for the Evil Genius, as Demps can, at the very least, contribute instantly as a kick returner. He’ll also likely factor into the running back rotation, as a stout back who will immediately be among the fastest players in the league. He ran a 10.01 100m… four years ago. He’s fast. Madden players: take note. A player with a 99 “Speed” rating was just added to the Pats’ roster.
